Day 9: Back To Lima
This morning we awoke on the boat for our last time. We were not far from Iquitos and made it to the dock by 8:30. It was sad to pack up everything leave El Arca. There was about three hours left to explore Iquitos before we needed to head to the airport. We saw the enormous market place, the Iron House, and took rides in the Tuk Tuks. The market was huge. It consisted of street upon street lined with makeshift tables covered with whatever the person happened to be selling. One of the most interesting sections of the market was the medicinal section. There were tables covered with intriguing bottles filled with liquids, herbs and roots. Some of the bottles had snakes and unidentifiable objects in them. Almost all of the medicines came directly from the rain forest and it was fascinating to see how many there were and learn a little bit about them.
Flying back to Lima was a little disappointing because we were leaving the jungle, the river, and the natives and returning to the big city. We stayed again in La Hotel Castellana and that night had a great Peruvian dinner at El Tigre restaurant (on their sidewalk)where some very talented street performers serenaded us . After some more shopping and exploring downtown Miraflores most of us returned to the hotel and went to bed, Carol and Fritz decided to go dancing. In the morning we left for the airport at 4:00 am and said our final good-byes to Peru.
