Day 8 - Jan 14
Back to the airport for trip to Capetown. Direct this time and not thru Joburg as it's called colloquially. Arrived to find a splendid day with very good visibility so rather than wait for "planned" trip (next day)to the top of Table Mountain everybody jumped at the idea to go immediately. After checking in to Cellars (it was formerly a vineyard and wine cellar), a quick lunch and off to the cable car which takes one on a breathtaking ride to the top of Table Mountain which is the dominant geographical feature of Capetown. What can I say except that the view to everywhere is forever. There were some Dissies (rock rabbits) hanging around looking for handouts from the tourists. The Cape of Good Hope 18 to 20 miles away was quite visible as was the city, the harbor, and the island that Nelson Mandela spent 24 years on. A note about our transportation: In addition to the mini busses operated by the hotel, a couple of young ladies, official Tour Guides, owning and operating their own vehicles took us everywhere. On time, efficiently, lots of good information and with answers to all questions. A very nice addition to all the traveling we were doing. Dinner at the hotel was extra fancy. Lots of unrecognizable items on the menu and when served looked more like art pieces than food - but good.
